Stan Morse, President of the Twin Oaks Team, Inc., announced the winners of the 8th Annual Twin Oaks Student Achievement Awards. The presentation was part of the Printing Industries of the Carolinas’ 40th Annual PICA Awards. The coveted awards are presented to winning printing and graphics students attending school in North or South Carolina. With over 400 printers from across the Carolinas in attendance, the Twin Oaks Awards were presented to both the winning students and their teachers. This year’s high school winner is Nick Romanos, a senior at Asheville High School.  His teacher Mike Davis was honored with a matching award, his second Twin Oaks for Asheville High School.

At the college level Morse presented the award to Dana Barrett and Taylor Collie seniors at Chowan University. Their Instructor and department Head, Mike Steczak accepted the “Twin Oaks” for Chowan University for the 3ed time.  March 22, 2007 Morse re presented the Twin Oaks Awards at Chowan at a banquet attended by students faculty and printing industry representatives from across the eastern seaboard.

The works were independently judged from 256 entries in six printing categories produced as school projects by printing and graphics students at the high school and college levels. Each winning student receives a scholarship. The winning school also receives a check for their printing program.

In 1969 Morse was among the first class to graduate from the current R.I.T. campus. He worked primarily in commercial printing until forming the Twin Oaks Team Recruiting and Consulting Company in 1997. After joining PICA, the Carolinas’ PIA affiliate, he proposed the creation of and offered to sponsor student awards in conjunction with the Printing Industry Awards. Morse credits R.I.T. highly for his successful career and works to promote and improve printing education in the Carolinas with several programs including an educational rebate program for his clients. The Twin Oaks Award’s goals are to promote printing education and honest competition for excellence.
